The trials and tribulations of an "overthinker"!!

To do or not to do? To be or not to be? Confusion and indecision bordering on paranoia would be putting it mildly. A rollercoaster of emotions, a jumpy, ferrety persona and a mind that travels at enough miles per hour to send the whole world spinning are just a few of the more distinct, observable phenomena surrounding an Overthinker. An overthinker is a crude, sort of an informal name that I like to use while referring to people like me who just cannot put a bridle on the absurd direction and speed with which our thoughts ricochet off the original issue. And this happens not once, but multiple times in a single minute so much that we can literally feel our brain screaming for rest.
For example, a friend does not reply to our message within five minutes- That's it,all hell breaks lose in the charming world of lunacyland. In the course of the next ten minutes, we go through a series of splendid explanations for the lack of reply which range from us having committed a dire mistake to us having deluded ourselves into thinking that we could ever be friends with anyone.

Now, these utterly implausible explanations will be fervently supported by the recollection of surprisingly quite a number of occasions where we could have sworn that his or her smile was a little off or his or her words spoken to us were a little harsh. All this leads up to the perfectly sensible (to us) and exhaustingly ridiculous (to others) conclusion that the friend is totally mad at us. Then, 'ping' comes the message tone signalling the friend's reply. An incredible surge of relief rushes up to our head which, when we think about an hour later is sadly shameful.

Add this inexorable urge to analyse every situation to an admirable memory power and an intelligent mind, you have got a person who cannot get their stubborn brain to relax even for a jiffy. Most of us "overthinkers" tend to fall prey to insomnia which is understandable because a mind that can triumph over sanity, can conquer sleep too.

Almost all of us care a little, if not too much about what the others think of us. But dissecting each and every incident to its very core and thinking about one of many embarrassing moments which took place five years ago and getting fidgety and panicky over it is not helping anyone. As unimaginable as it sounds, we have got to pull ourselves together and just think a little less so that we will have more time to be normal or sane, in spite of how weird it sounds!!
