Slow Life or No Life

The whole purpose of working hard and studying harder is to have a successful career when, hopefully we can finally start to relax. Not to burst the bubble, but simplicity lies in perception and not in fact! In other words, the road to success and the ensuing journey is hardly as simple as it may seem. Eventually, every eager traveler ends up falling into either of two destination potholes: a no-time-to-breathe life or a monotonous life. Each has its own undeniable perks as well as disappointments, yet the bottom line is that happiness has once again taken a humble backseat.

Is having a monotonous life that bad or are we miserable simply because we just cannot help but get trapped in the clutches of comparison?  Blatant continuous comparison with our peers, analyzing each and every aspect of ours and their stress-riddled lives to the point of sheer insanity. Having balanced working hours with enough time to relax with family and do something you love can surely not be detrimental in any way. Yet, it somehow manages to make you think that you have not reached your potential and are wasting away in disgrace. Why? Is it just because the world has become so frustratingly fast-paced that a hectic week is a normal one and a normal week is akin to being jobless?

In the race towards conforming to the unrealistic standards set by society, we end up passing life by in a blur and it will be a little too late by the time we truly open our eyes. Life is not going to offer us unlimited opportunities to take it easy and neither are we going to be able to keep running at above optimum levels all the time. A balance needs to be struck somewhere, sometime and only then will we be able to truly attain peace of the inner kind. Granted that we are not always in a position to live life on our own terms but loss of control and lack of control are two entirely different things.

Ultimately, a choice needs to be made and it needs to be made now. A slow life or no life?
